Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about long-distance moving, broker services, estimates, costs, and more.
Triple Crown Moving Systems is a fully licensed and bonded interstate household goods moving broker (US DOT# 4411647, MC# 1733135). We coordinate and arrange long-distance moves by matching you with vetted, FMCSA-authorized motor carriers from our network. We do not physically transport your belongings ourselves — instead, we leverage our carrier relationships to secure competitive rates and reliable service on your behalf.
A moving company (motor carrier) physically loads, transports, and delivers your household goods using their own trucks and crews. A moving broker like Triple Crown connects you with licensed carriers, negotiates rates, and coordinates the logistics of your move. Because we work with multiple carriers, we can often secure better pricing and find availability when individual carriers are booked.
Costs vary based on the weight or volume of your shipment, the distance traveled, the time of year, and any additional services you need (packing, storage, specialty items). A typical interstate move for a 2–3 bedroom home ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. We provide free, no-obligation estimates — contact us for a quote tailored to your specific move.
You can request a free estimate by calling us at (888) 804-1208 or filling out the form on our Contact page. A Senior Relocation Specialist will gather details about your move — origin, destination, inventory, preferred dates — and provide a transparent quote. We also offer virtual walk-through estimates for added accuracy.
A binding estimate guarantees the total cost for the services and items listed — your price will not change as long as the inventory remains the same. A non-binding estimate is a good-faith projection based on estimated weight and services; the final charge is determined by actual shipment weight at the time of the move. Your specialist will clearly explain which type of estimate applies.
Peak season typically runs from late spring through early fall (May – September), with the highest demand around month-end dates and holidays. Moving during the off-season (October – April) or mid-month can save you 15–25% on your total cost.
We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks before your desired move date, especially during peak season. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you will have with scheduling and carrier selection.
Federal regulations prohibit carriers from transporting hazardous materials including propane tanks, gasoline, paint, aerosols, pesticides, firearms ammunition, and perishable food. Your relocation specialist will provide a complete list of prohibited items when you book.
By federal law, all interstate carriers must offer Released Value Protection at no additional charge, which covers your goods at $0.60 per pound per item. Full Value Protection is available for an additional cost and covers the repair, replacement, or cash settlement of lost or damaged items at their current market value. We recommend reviewing both options with your specialist.
If any items are lost or damaged, you should note the damage on the delivery inventory sheet and file a written claim directly with the carrier within 9 months of delivery. The carrier is required by law to acknowledge your claim within 30 days and resolve it within 120 days. You can also contact us and we will help guide you through the process.
Your Senior Relocation Specialist will keep you updated throughout the move. Once your belongings are in transit, you can contact us for status updates at any time. Many carriers also provide tracking tools directly.
Yes. If your new home is not ready or you need time between moves, we can arrange short-term or long-term storage through our carrier network. Storage-in-transit is available as an add-on service.
Please review our full Cancellation Policy page for details. Generally, cancellations made within 72 hours of signing receive a full deposit refund. Beyond that window, the broker fee may be non-refundable. We encourage you to read the policy carefully before booking.
